This project will enable the installation of the first Seabin 6.0 Data Monitoring Unit (DMU) in Sydney Harbour. Seabin’s collect marine debris 24/7, providing important data about ocean pollutants.

This new Seabin unit will add real time water quality data through sensors (IoT connectivity) to monitor trends in association with floating plastics and contaminants. Further development of analysis protocols in light of the findings will be put in place, to continue to inform on ways to improve litter prevention for cleaner oceans. All data collected is aggregated into Seabin’s unqie Pollution Index which is utilised to inform government policies on waste and pollution. 

Australian Wildlife Conservancy’s mission is the effective conservation of all Australian animal species and the habitats in which they live.

Funding will support AWC to develop and launch a Biodiversity Credit Unit pilot to provide proof-of-concept for an innovative financial instrument that helps the market address the biodiversity crisis and drives capital toward nature-positive outcomes.

AWC will negotiate an agreement with a financial counterparty who will purchase the Credit Units which AWC will generate through a series of flora and fauna improvements at a test site at one of AWC’s sanctuaries. The project has the potential to lay the groundwork for further broad scale market adoption of high quality biodiversity offsets.

The climate and biodiversity crises are accelerating and under-resourced and under-funded individuals and groups are struggling to change the trajectory of ongoing decline. That’s why we’re funding a newly created non-profit organisation, the Australian Conservation and Biodiversity Foundation (ACBF), to protect and restore Australia’s native forests by rapidly building capacity across multiple sectors. By 2030, ACBF aims to achieve:

• the end to commercial logging and clearing of Australia’s forests
• 8 million hectares of restoration of forest habitats

This will deliver 100 million tonnes of abatement a year and help recover hundreds of threatened plant and animal species. Achieving these goals will require a major intervention – to develop and coordinate a broad-based alliance across Australia’s climate and nature movements. This will focus on aligning partners in the business and investor communities, in the scientific community, amongst traditional owners and in rural and regional Australia to deliver a campaign that can transform Australia.
