Quarterly update – March 2023
Markets remained volatile in the first quarter of 2023, with inflation and the management of interest rates continuing to be the prevailing theme. Despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the collapse of three banks in the US and Credit Suisse in Europe, equity markets rallied through the quarter in conjunction with an easing of interest rate rise forecasts. However, this contrasted with the story being told in bond markets, with the banking crisis signaling to bond investors an increased risk of recession.
Our latest investment commentary examines how our Funds fared during the quarter, including longer-term growth investments that experienced a rebound in performance and where we see value in smaller companies trading at a discount to their peers.
